Version 1.00

Sierra made two versions of Police Quest. The AGI and the SCI version.
AGI (Adventure Game Interpreter) was Sierra's first interpreter, and that's the
old version of this game and the version this FAQ is about. SCI (Sierra's
Creative Interpreter) is the advanced interpreter Sierra used for its later
games, and in thus the new version.

As said, this FAQ only handles the old AGI version the game (the one in which
you got to type commands). If you got the SCI version it's very well possible
this FAQ works as Sierra wanted to be as close to the original as possible, but
I cannot guarantee everything is the same.

| How to play this game on modern machines | IDX00 |
Police Quest is written on a machine that is almost ancient, and a system that
is not (completely) supported by Windows and other modern OSes.

Therefore you're gonna need a emulator for old systems.
When I wrote this FAQ I used DosBox 0.72 (MacOS X PPC version).

DosBox can be downloaded from

| Police Department - Game Start | IDX01 |
You start the game as Officer Sonny Bonds, just arrived at the police
departement for another day of work.

(When there's a number between () behind an action it means my score became
that number during my play).

- Take the front exit east

- = Go to your locker (first one on the right from the front) and open it
  = Undress
  = Close the lcoker
  = Go to the shower
= Turn on the shower then turn it off
= Go to the locker and open it
  = Dress
= Type "GET ALL" to get all the stuff you need from your locker for now (4)
= Close the locker and leave this room
- Take the back exit east

- = Check out your pigeon hole (it contains a message from Steve) (5)
= Pick up the paper from the front desk and read all pages
= Now the briefing will start, your desk is the one on the right closes to the
    big board. (11/19)
= After the briefing leave this room
- = Get a radio from the table (21)
= Get a set of keys from the board (22)
= Exit west (back way, not the door)
- Exit west

- = Go to the left front car
= Type "CHECK" and after that walk around your car until the system says
    you're ready to go
= Enter your car and drive
| Traffic Accident | IDX02 |
Just drive around until you get a call you must respond to the "corner at Fig".
Then go to Map B2 and you see a crashed car. Go there to investigate. (30)

= Go to the car and look at the driver. Keep doing that until the system tells
you that this is no accident but a case of murder.
= No go to the people and try to talk to them and a young man will explained
what happened. Talk to him again to get the license number of the caddilac.
= Now use your radio to call department.
= Now wait until Dooley arrives with a gentle man from the homicide department.
= Now you can leave this place (35)

(One note. If you forgot to take a radio with you, you can use use the radio in
your car).

| Carol's Cafeine Castle - Time for a break | IDX03 |
Just drive around until Steve calls you to come to the Caffeine Castle.
Go there, it's located on A3 (38)

- Enter the caffeine castle (don't forget to close your car door or you'll get
  your car stolen).

- = Join Steve. He's sitting at the table left of the entrance
= Carol will bring you a cup of coffee. Drink it.
= Now the phone will ring. Carol will say it's for you. Go to the phone and
    answer it. (40)
  = Leave this place
- Get into your car and hit the street again.

| Helen Hots | IDX04 |
Before you start on this, make sure you emptied your briefcase. You cannot do
this while driving, but if you stop at a random location, you can do so. (44)

You should just drive around the streets until you see somebody drive through
red light, the computer will mark this car, and now put on your alarm (F10 key)
and follow this car until the computer pulls both your car and the other car
of the road. Leave your car.

= Go to the red sports car and you see a girl in it. Look at her.

Now this woman will try to seduce you into sex in order not to get a ticket.
You can choose that road, and she'll give you a phone number, however if you
call it, it appears she's fooling you and that she gave you the number of your
commander in stead, and then the game will be over. So not the most brilliant
ones of ideas.

= Ask for her license (you'll see her name is Helen Hots)
= Write her a ticket (now she'll be mad, but at least you did not give into
= Return her license
= Ask her to sign the ticket
= Give her the ticket (53)

Now Helen doesn't like you any more, and she won't talk to you any more
Now you're done here. Onto the next mission.

(I must say this part contains a few bugs. You can prevent those bugs by
waiting until the computer shows no more messages while looking at the girl).

| Wino Willy's | IDX05 |
Now you should wait for a call to go to the Caffeine Castle, but due to a bug
you can also go there right now. (When you arrive there you should see some
motor bikes).

When you arrive there, get the nightstick from your car first as you need it in
this mission. (56)

- First enter Carol's place.
- Talk to Carol then leave. (59)
- Now enter Wino Willy's place (here comes trouble)

- = Say "Move bikes to another place"
= When the bikers try to beat you up press F10 and you'll hit them with your
nightstick (Mac users, in DosBox for MacOS this only works in fullscreen
mode since F10 has a feature in MacOS itself).
Now the whore will recognize you. She appears to be an old friends of yours
= Talk about drugs, and she'll tell you something about some crime she heard
about. In return Sonny will automaticly warn her for operation trick-trap
in which protitutes are being hunted down and arrested.
= Say her goodbye and leave.

Now get into your car and hit the streets again.

| Drunk Driver | IDX06 |
Drive around until you see a drunk driver.
Put on your alarm (F10) and follow him until the computer stops both of you.

= Go to the drunkard's car and order the man to get out (you need to free his
door, or he cannot get out).
= Ask for his license
= Perform an alcohol test (Command "PERFORM TEST") (73)
= Cuff the drunkard and he'll request you to cuff him in front.
= Cuff him in the back (if you don't it'll mean death)
= Go to you car and say "follow me", the man will follow you to your car
= Open the car's back door and the man will automaticly enter
= Enter your car

Now drive to the prison which is located on map D4

- = Leave your car and get your suspect out
= Open the locker beside the jail door and put your gun in there
= Ring the bell and the jailer will let you in (78)
- = Talk to the jailer
  = Uncuff your suspect
= Go to the jail door and Laura will enter and tell you some stuff.
= After Laura leaves talk to jailer and he'll tell you that Dooley wants you
    back at the office.
  = Leave the prison
Get your gun out of the locker and go back to the office. (80)

| Police Department - Chicken Dance | IDX07 |
- = Before leaving your car, put the nightstick back in it
  = Enter the department
- Exit east

- You see some police men here. Among them is Dooley who's whining about a
  'Gremlin'. Enter his office (west)
- After you saw the chicken here you can leave

- Now you'll be invited by your collegues to go to the Blue Room.
  Go to the shower room
- = Open your locker
  = Undress
  = Use the shower
= Go back to your locker and dress
  = Get your keys
  = Leave the locker room
- Put your police car keys back on the board, and put the radio back on the
table. And go to the parking. (83)
- Take the blue car in front and leave

| The Blue Room - The Dancer | IDX08 |
Go to the Blue Room. It's located on B4.

- Enter the Blue Room

- Sit down onto the chair on the right of Jack's table (center table).
Now watch the show until somebody tells you, you got to be back for a briefing
  in 15 minutes. (87)
- Go back to the station.

| Police Department - Briefing II | IDX09 |
Go to your locker room, undress, take a shower, dress and get your stuff.
And go to the briefing room (you'll be late but that doesn't matter). (88)

Get your radio and car keys, and go to the parking.

Check your car, walk around it, and hit the streets again.

| The Blue Cadilac | IDX0A |
Drive around at random until you are called about the blue cadilac. You see it
when you get called. Put the alarm on (F10) and follow it.
Now you're dealing with a real crimminal so this will be the hardest to follow.
Do so until he gives up and goes to the side of the road. Then press F4. (93)

= Use your radio to call for backup
= When the backup arrives, wait until he's covered you with an aimed gun
= Load your gun
= Now open your car door and step out of your car but stay behind your car door
= Type the next things "GET OUT", "HANDS UP" and "LIE DOWN" (101)
= Put your gun away and go to the suspect and cuff him
= Order him to stand up
= Say his rights (102)
= Search your suspect
= Order him to follow you.
= Open your back door and the suspect will enter automaticly
= Close the car door (both)
= Go to the suspect's car
= Look at all stuff in there
= Leave (108)
= Now enter your car and go to jail

- = Get your suspect out of the car
= Put your gun in the locker (it will mean death if you don't this time)
= Ring the bell to enter jail

- = The jailer will ask to book your suspect. Type "DRUGS" and it will do.
= Remove the cuffs and Marvin will move to his cell (111)
= Your collegue will enter the prison and tell you that Dooley wishes to see
    you in his office.

Leave the prison (don't forget your gun) and go back to the police department.

| Police Department - Sonny gets promotion | IDX0B |
- Go to Dooley's office

- = Hear Dooley out until he runs away
= Read the memo on Dooley's desk (113)
= Leave the office and go to the locker room
- = Undress take a shower and dress and get all your stuff from the locker.
= Leave and go to Morgan's room (next to the exit)
- = Hear out Morgan then go to Laura's office (which will also be your office
    now), it's next to Morgan's office. (114)
- Hear out Laura and she'll explain all the stuff in this office. Follow her
around. After that she'll update you on Hoffman's situation (which is bad).
= Get the keys from the key board
  = Look at the clipboard
= When you're done looking look in the cabinet and take the hoffman file with
After awhile Laura will enter the room and tell you that Hoffman's lawyer is
ready to bail Hoffman out. Time to go to court.
(you must put your patrol car keys back on the board before you leave, and
you must take the grey car in the back now. Don't forget to check it first).
| Court | IDX0C |
This part of the game is abracadabra for me, and I never figured it quite out.
Luckily you can get around this part thanks to a bug.
If somebody can completely explain this part, please let me know.

After that you can return to the station where Laura is waiting for you.

| Lytton City Park | IDX0D |
Laura will enter your car and tell you to go to the Lytton City Park.
It's located on B1.

- Once you arrived, load your gun and exit north (120)
- = Hide behind the north east bush
  = Aim your gun
= Call Laura to tell her you're in position
(She'll tell you she'll stay silent until you call her).
= Now wait until the suspects arrive, let them do their deal, then call Laura
(You need patience here, as this is gonna take a long time).
= After that say HANDS UP (Only do this after you called Laura or the game
    will be over).
= One suspect will run away (Laura will take care of him so don't worry).
Cuff the one who gives up. (126)
  = Search the man (127)
  = Say his rights (128)
  = Exit south
- = Go to your car
  = Question your suspect
= Open your back door so your suspects can enter
= Now get in your car and go to jail
- = Allow your suspects to leave the car and go for the door
= Put your gun in the locker and ring the bell to enter

- = Book the suspects as "drugs"
= After the suspects are in their cell leave this room (130)
- Get your gun out of the locker and go back to the station and leave Laura

| Blue Room - Sad News | IDX0E |
Go to the Blue Room

= Sit at Jack's table and talk to him
= Hear Jack out and a cab will pick him up. After that a collegue will enter
and tell you to go to Morgan.
| Police Department - Hoffman's Free | IDX0F |
- = Go to Morgan and hear him out (131)
Morgan will tell you Hoffman has been set free. (Which would even happen if
you did the court part succesfully as far as my info goes).
  = Leave the office
- = Go to Russ (he's the fellow behind the window in the main hall)
= Ask for the black book
  = Go to your office
- = Check out the basket on your desk to find a note from Laura.
= Read Laura's note and find out about Jessie Bains (remember that name as
    it's very important). (134)
= Leave your office and come back and you'll see Laura. She'll tell you
Sweet Cheeks Marie has been arrested and that you must go to jail to meet
  = Go to Morgan's office
- Hear Morgan out and leave.

So now you know where to go.

| Prison - Sweet Cheeks Marie | IDX0G |
- Well put your gun in the locker and enter.

- Go to Sweet Cheeks and say "CAN YOU HELP ME WITH THE OPERATION". Sweet Cheeks
will be more than happy to do so. (139)
Now you are ready here. Sweet Cheeks will be transported by your collegues, so
you can just go to station now. (Don't forget your gun).
- Oh wait, something happened at Cotton Cove. Go there first. (Bottom right
  part of the map)

| Cotton Cove | IDX0H |
Go to the dead body and remove the blanket to look at the body.
Open his shirt to reveal the flower tatoo so that you know this is Marvin
Hoffman. Use your radio to tell the police Hoffman is dead.
Now go back to the station.

| Police Department - Final Preperations | IDX0I |
- Go to Morgan's office (Laura and Sweet Cheeks are also here)

- Hear Morgan out about the next mission (146/148)
After that go to the locker room
- = Undress at your locker
  = Take a shower
  = Use the hair bleach
  = Rinse
  = Turn off the shower
= Get to your locker and get dressed
  = Leave the room
- Put the radio extender back on the table and go to Morgan's office
  for last instructions (152)

- Go to your car, check it one last time and head for Hotel Delphoria
  (Map A2)
| Hotel Delphoria | IDX0J |
This is your biggest mission (and your final one). So let's get rolling

- Enter the hotel

- = Go to the desk and ring the bell
  = Check in
  = Pay for the room
  = Exit west
- = Go to the bar and order a drink (I ordered whiskey, but I guess any drink
    will do). (156)
= You'll automaticly sit at the table with Sweet Cheeks. When you get your
    drink pay for it.
(You'll see some suspicious men pass. Nothing to do about that now, just
    leave them be for now).
= When Sweet Cheeks leaves you alone with the bartender you'll have a private
chat. When she gets back stand up.
= Go to the bar and talk about gambling.
= Now exit east (Sweet Cheeks will follow)
- = Enter the elevator
= Go to the second floor (just type "TWO")
- Go to room 204

- = Sweet Cheeks asks two questions. Answer them both with "YES".
= Use the phone and dial 555-6674
= Say that you are Whitey (Just type WHITEY) (163)
  = Use the phone
= Dial 555-9222 (Sweet Cheeks will leave)
  = Leave
- Make your way back to the bar

- Ask the bartender about gambling and follow him to the back room (167)
Allow him to search you and you're in.
- = Sit at the table north-west
= Wait for Frank to come in and play poker.
This works easy. Just save before the antes are in, play as much money all the
time as you can. If you win, save before the next game, and load the game if
you lose. Keep this up until you won enough money to impress Frank. ($1000)

After you won that much, you're done here, just go back to your room.

- = Wait here until your backup arrives. They'll give you a pen you can use as
radio. (Try "GIVE ME THE TRANSMITTER") (175)
  = Leave the room.
NOTE! Due to a bug, you cannot get the transmitter any more when you leave and
come back. The men will still be there, but the game won't register them
      any more. Strange!
- Go back to the bartender and ask for gambling. (You'll be led to the private
- = Join the boys at the table for another round of poker. (to $1300) (175)
= When Frank makes you an offer say "YES"
= When Frank invites you to his room say "YES"

- Follow Frank to his room, but before you enter his room, call your back up to
tell them Frank's room number. (183)

- Enter the room, if you didn't call before entering you're dead, if you did
the game will be finished. Watch an enjoy the show.

I get a lot of mails in which I must guess which FAQ it is we're talking
about, and since I'm very busy as a contributor for GameFAQs, and ocasionally
other sites, I have quite a lot of FAQs here. So it will help me a lot when
I know which FAQ/Game it is you're talking about. :)

And one last thing. Below are remarks I got a lot about my FAQs. Some are
funny, and some are just plainly too stupid for words. I don't want to be
an arrogant bastard or anything, but some of them tire me a lot.

So here are those mails with my standard replies:

  M: Fix your English
A: Some people say they hardly hear the diffrence between me and an
English speaking fellow. Others say it sucks. Well, I honestly don't
care in which category you are. English is NOT my first language. If
I spoke my own language you probably couldn't read my FAQs at all.

A: Anyone who sends mail like this won't receive a reply. In fact they
will be banned from ever mailing me again. I can understand you do not
agree with my technique. There are as many as there are people. I can
also agree you detected that I made a mistake. Well, I'm human you know.
Making mistakes is part of my nature, as much as it's yours. If you
detect errors in my FAQ you can tell me about it in a civil way, and
I'll fix it if I agree with you.

M: Are you a man? A woman? How old are you? Where do you live?
A: I really got that kind of mails a lot. I don't mind that you know.
I was quite amused by such mails actually.
Well, my name is Jeroen Broks. I'm not going to give my private adres
in this FAQ or anywhere else on the internet, but you may know that
I live in the Netherlands, I am a man, and I was born in 1975. So on
the moment I started on this version of this FAQ I was 31 years old.

  M: Fsdasdadasf afsdfasd afdfsaf
A: Whatever you say I don't understand it. If you mail me, please only do
so in either English or Dutch or if you really need in German.
(Be perpared that if you speak German to me, you might get an answer in
     English, tough).
I don't speak any other language.

M: May I translate your FAQ into another language?
A: If you ask my permission, mostly no problem

M: Why is Neoseeker banned from hosting your FAQs?
A: That's something between me and Neoseeker. I don't find it necesary to
go into detail about that. I noted it in my FAQs to make sure they
will never pop up there unnoticed. So don't mail me about it
cause I won't answer. I got very good reasons for it. That's all you
     need to know.

And so far this FAQ. I hope you have good use for it!
