INTRODUCTION [100]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
You can go to a specific section by searching for the number in brackets (like
this: [100]) specified in the table of contents. Any references to the main
quests are enclosed within curly braces { } and side quests ones are in
brackets [ ], just like they're shown in the quest details.

Quest template:
[ (##) Quest Name ] Pre: Prerequisite quest (CAN BE FAILED)
Reward: #exp, #g, items, scrolls, wife, etc
Hint: How this quest can be failed, or any other important info
- Concise details on how to complete the quest
- Talk to Person Name (Person's House)
- Talk to Person Two (Person's Description when you mouse over him)

If I say to talk to someone and don't specify what option to choose, then
there's only one option that is relevant to the quest; I trust you can click
around and figure out which one it is.

Quick Glossary:
E - East
W - West
N - North
S - South
SW - Southwest, you get the picture
Atk - Attack
Def - Defense
Int - Intelligence
Dmg - Damage
Init - Initiative
Lead - Leadership

I completed this guide while using a Mage on Impossible mode. Some quest
rewards may differ between classes (e.g., what type of runes) and mode (e.g.,
how much gold/exp you get). Some other quest rewards are somewhat randomized.
If the rewards you get are somewhat different from what I list, it may be
because of this. That said, if you're sure I have something wrong, please let
me know.

This is my first guide. Be nice =P

that are at the tips of the tentacles (does not hurt the devilfish)
    # Summon Devilfish: creates two stacks of Devilfish in unoccupied spots on
the battlefield. Summons get progressively stronger as the battle goes on.
    # Infinite melee retaliation (if attacking from the side, the retaliation
will hurt all units between the tentacles on that side)
+ Strategy: Keep ranged units in a corner, surrounded by summons, traps, or
melee. Kill the left and right tentacles with ranged and no-retaliation melee
units. Either take out devilfish as they come in or keep them occupied (or
asleep) until you want to use Geyser/Underground Blades/Black Hole. Even if
you kill the Kraken, you still have to finish off the Devilfish that are left
+ Alternate Strategy: Use Shamans/Dryads/Royal Thorns/Demon Portal to fill
all spots on the battlefield. Place traps if you can't do anything else. The
  rest is same as above.

+ Health: 50,000 (in impossible difficulty)

Spider Queen (so if you have melee attacking, keep only one to a side) or
the single spot in front of her
    # Infinite melee retaliation
    # Summon spiders: 1-3 stacks of venomous spiders drop down onto unoccupied
spots on the battlefield. Stacks get progressively stronger as the battle
    goes on.
    # Change Position: there are 3 locations off the main battlefield that the
Spider Queen can move to; the effect of this is that your melee units that
were attacking her are suddenly in the back, and any ranged that were
supposed to be in the back may now be in the frontline.
+ Strategy: Keep your ranged and magic units in the center. Kill of the
spider adds as they spawn. If your Geyser is powerful enough, you can use
that every other turn to kill the spawns; it has the added benefit of hitting
the queen, also. Otherwise, use your melee to take out the spiders. Keep all
your ranged units attacking the queen. If you start getting overwhelmed by
the spiders, you've probably lost (they only get stronger as time goes on).
  + Alternate Strategy: Use Dryads/Royal Thorns/Thorn Hunters/Shamans to fill
the battlefield with thorns/totems (start with the area around your ranged
and magic units). Once the whole field is filled, the Spider Queen will skip
most of her turns (those that she would've been summoning spiders).

Lvl 2) Might runes, Mind runes, Magic runes - Lvl 2 description
Lvl 3) Might runes, Mind runes, Magic runes - Lvl 3 description

Stars (*) next to the skill name are my ratings for the skill:
     * - useless; don't bother
** - may be worth putting a single point into
*** - may be useful depending on your play style
**** - very useful; try to get this if you can
***** - must have! get it asap

I gave all leadership-decreasing skills 2 stars because they depend on play
style and after the first point, only give an extra 5% leadership decrease.

Money and experience bonuses get few stars because both are plentiful even on
impossible difficulty, whereas skill runes are quite hard to get.

Diplomacy ****
=========
If you encounter an enemy that has some of the same troops as you do, and that
troop in your army isn't a complete stack (e.g., you have the leadership to
hire some more if you went to a town/store), you will TAKE some of the enemy's
units and add them to your stack (up to your max leadership).
Example: you have 90 shamans but you could hire 100 based on your leadership;
your enemy has 200 shamans. You will take 10 of theirs to get 100 and they'll
be left with 190. If the enemy had only 50 shamans and you had Diplomacy lvl2,

slows, and eventually stops (I believe it slows every 5 turns). 6 goes to 3,

Chaos Magic *** / *****
===========
Lets you use chaos magic. Usefulness depends on your character. A warrior has
little use for lvl3 Chaos Magic, but a mage can hardly be without it. Even a
warrior should put a point into this, though, if only for sacrifice (combine
sacrifice with Reaper's Time Back to resurrect lvl5 units).

1) 2 0 6 - Level1
2) 4 0 8 - Level2
3) 6 0 12 - Level3

Necromancers

1) 0 0 3 - 10%
2) 1 0 4 - 15%
3) 2 0 5 - 20%

Necromancy ***
==========
Resurrects a portion of killed troops. I prefer skills that keep my troops
alive in the first place =P Also raises power of the spell Necro Call.

1) 0 2 4 - 15-20% resurrected, +10% to Necro Call
2) 0 3 5 - 20-30% resurrected, +20% to Necro Call
3) 0 4 6 - 30-40% resurrected, +30% to Necro Call

Higher Magic (Mage Only) ******
Allows casting of spells twice in one round. That's right, 6 stars; it's that
good. Really need Concentration to let you keep casting, though.

Prereqs: Archmage
1) 5 5 20 - 1 time per combat
2) 5 5 15 - 2 times per combat
3) 5 5 10 - 3 times per combat

Destroyer * / *****
=========
Increases power of damage spells (i.e., boosts Fireball, but not Resurrect).
Pretty useless for a warrior; must-have for a mage.

1) 1 0 5 - +15%
2) 2 0 7 - +30%
3) 3 0 9 - +50%

===========
Leadership gain: 14400 (+120 every 2 levels)
Rune gain: 130 55 40

Thoughts: Focused on rage and leadership. Pretty bad with spells, so use only
unit-boosting and crowd-control. Gains tons of rage so uses Spirits of Rage
often. Great for first playthrough.

Thoughts: Tries to be both a mage and a warrior, yet fails at both. Doesn't
get much rage like a warrior, nor can he rely on spells like a mage. Can be
pretty good against undead and demons, but those are only a portion of the
game. My least favorite class.

Thoughts: Requires more tactical thinking, as units are much weaker than the

who prefer a more strategic flow.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
You get the Spirits of Rage after you complete { (05) A Secret Weapon }.
Unlock Zerlock by talking to it and battling some mages and demons.
Unlock Sleem by feeding it poisonous snakes and/or spiders.
Unlock Lina by turning right as soon as you enter Upper Hadar and using the
lightning box... thing.
Unlock Reaper by freeing the Dwarven King's son in Castle Bogacho. See
{ (09) Treaty with the Dwarves }

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Zerlock [710]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Smashing Sword: Normal physical attack. Deals 2x damage to mages.

- Stone Wall: Creates a 3-square wall for a few turns. Needs 3 squares
vertically, horizontally, or diagonally. Does not stop enemy archers from
firing. Can be destroyed (the wall is a single entity, so the whole wall gets
destroyed, not individual pieces).

- Rockfall: Deals physical area damage (circular area). Initially the area is 3
squares, but at later levels it can extend to 19 squares. Does 2x damage to
mages. Does NOT affect your units.

- Underground Blades: Deals damage to all enemies on the screen. Does 2x damage
to mages. Note: Flying enemies are affected, as well.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Sleem [720]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Poisonous Spit: Does poison damage initially and poison damage over time

- Evil Shoal: Deals damage along 5 rows/columns/diagonals. Can often attack all
enemies on the board if they're not too spread out. DOES affect your units.

- Cloud of Poison: Deals poison area damage several times per round (can be
quite deadly to groups - enemies and allies, alike!)

- Glot's Armor: Cast on a creature, it'll absorb some damage. If an attack does
more damage than the armor has health, the extra damage is ignored (i.e., it
will absorb one attack, sometimes more). The unit affected by Glot's Armor
cannot move. Great when you need to absorb a single heavy attack

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Lina [730]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Chargers: Places a few balls on the field randomly. Anyone who picks them up
(including enemies) gets an action point and that unit's hero gets mana & rage.

- Ice Orb: Creates a spiked ball on the field. When it moves, it rolls until it
hits something. If that something is an enemy, it does damage proportional to
how far it rolled. For every space it rolls through, the damage is increased
by 100%. So, if it doesn't roll, it'll do normal damage. If it rolls through 8
squares, it'll do 9x damage. The ball can be destroyed and enemies can move out
of the way since it'll only move in one direction. Put it on the opposite side
of the field from an enemy, though, and the damage will be massive. Plus, it
can block archers. Can only have one at a time.

- Ice Thorns: Create a hollow, triangle-shaped ring of ice crystals in the
specified area. Each crystal has 1hp. Sometimes useful for containing a unit
for a turn or two. Does not stop enemy archers from firing

- Gizmo: Creates a gizmo that hovers above the battlefield (can't be targeted)
and attacks or heals a random unit each turn. At higher levels can remove
status effects and give/take action points. Since it usually goes last, taking
action points from your enemies is rarely of any use. Getting an extra action
point is equivalent to Fit of Energy (20 mana), though.

+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
Reaper [740]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
- Soul Draining: Kills a set percentage of a unit's stack (e.g., if it's at 10%
and the unit has 200 'people' in it, Soul Draining will kill 20 of them). This
skill is not affected by resistances. Can't be used on undead or inanimate
creatures. The most important skill end-game; can do dozens of thousands of
damage. Try to get this to use as little rage and to have as short a rest time
as possible.

- Rage Draining: Deals damage to all enemies in a 19 square radius and GIVES
you some rage. If there are no enemies in the area you cast it on, you do NOT
get rage.

- Time Back: Changes a unit back to how it was at the begining of the turn
before the current turn (i.e., the 'previous' turn). This includes not only
position, but also health, skills, statuses, etc. It will permanently resurrect
units that have been killed. Combine this with Sacrifice to resurrect level 5
units.

- Black Hole: Deals massive damage to all enemy units for massive amounts of
rage

                          THE OBELISKS OF FANDOR [800]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
The obelisks can be found in almost every location in the game. If you visit
each of them at least once, you can go in the Pyramid of Fandor in the dwarven
lands and get a prize.

Once all the lights are on for you, talk to the priest outside the pyramid
and he'll open it up and asks you to get a map from there. Go in, take the
map (and the most likely single chest), and exit. There's not much else in
the pyramid. Talk to the priest again to get 4-5 runes of your class.

He'll also tell you that you can sell the map to a monarch. Here's what you
get from each of the rulers:
- King Mark (humans): 250,000 gold (though he says it's only 50,000)
- Tom Digor (dwarves): Mithril Shield (+8 Defense, -20% Dwarf leadership)
- Queen Violeta (elves): 10 of each rune

Locations
- Greenwort 1: Near the magic school, right as you exit the capital (12)
- Greenwort 2: On an island near Kitano (6)
- Arlania: On the hill between the tavern and the the magic range (2)
- Marshan Swamp: Between the two witches (8)
- Verlon Forest 1: Next to the ruined castle of Fandor (5)
- Verlon Forest 2: Above the lake house (7)
- Western Islands 1: Above the orc's fort (13)
- Western Islands 2: On the islands of the three brothers (11)
- Eastern Islands: On Mirabella's island; follow the path N of her (10)
- Upper Haddar: Next to the pyramid (3)
- Ardan's Peaks: W of the necromancer. The land around his house is black (1)
- Great Forest: W of the tree of life (9)
- Gray Wasteland: Below the graveyard, E of the Boatman's house (4)

If you missed an obelisk and what to know which one it was, look at the lights
around the obelisk next to the pyramid. The ones that are unlit are the ones
you still need to visit. The numbers in parenthesis above represent which of
the lights will light up when you visit that obelisk, starting from the
south-west-most one:
1. Ardan's Peaks
2. Arlania
3. Upper Haddar
4. Gray Wasteland
5. Verlon Forest 1
6. Greenwort 2
7. Verlon Forest 2
8. Marshan Swamp
9. Great Forest
10. Eastern Islands
11. Western Islands 1
12. Greenwort 1
13. Western Islands 2

                          THE DRAGONS' LABYRINTH [900]
+-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
This is the most confusing part of the game, no doubt. Some of the entrances
won't return you to where you came from and there's a lot of circular paths.
I'll try to post a map, but I've been turned down before, so I can't promise
anything.

There are 26 rooms within the Labyrinth. The best I can do here is give a small
description of each by focusing on some landmark in it:

{26. Orc Sign} .......... -> Exit to Murdock, {25. Statue}

* These are the rooms that have something funky going on w.r.t. teleportation
** Yes, it has two exits to {22. Altar}

The shortest way to visit every room (say, to kill all of Haas' incarnations):
Entrance, 1, 2, 3, (2), (1), 4, 5, 8, 7, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17, 18,
(13), (14), 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, Exit
The rooms in parenthesis are repeats.

The shortest way through the Labyrinth from entrance to exit is:
Entrance, 1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 24, 25, 26, Exit

The shortest way from exit to entrance (say, to return to Skaar):
Exit, 26, 25, 24, 21, 20, 19, 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10, 9, 5, 4, 1, Entrance
