FAQ TITLE:

The Optimized Straightforward Walkthru for Infidel

COPYRIGHT INFO:

This FAQ is copyright 2008-2009 by Stanley E. Dunigan (dunigase@wmconnect.com).

This FAQ may be posted and used anywhere by anyone as long as it's unaltered,
but always check one of the official websites listed below for the latest
version.

FAQ DESCRIPTION:

Like all of my optimized straightforward walkthrus, this FAQ is a complete
walkthru for the game that has been optimized and organized to make it as fast
and easy as possible to complete the game. I don't give any reference-style
information, like a list of all hieroglyphs, or encourage you to do unnecessary
things. In true walkthru fashion, I just tell you the answers without explaining
or rationalizing them. If you want non-spoiler-ish hints, see the Infidel hint
file on the Universal Hint System (UHS) website at: www.uhs-hints.com.

VERSION 1.01 (4/1/2009) NOTES AND CREDITS:

This is just a slightly spiffed up final release of this walkthru.

VERSION 1.0 (3/14/2008) NOTES AND CREDITS:

This is the original release of this FAQ, so I have no special notes or credits
to report yet.

NOTE: This FAQ was written while playing the Infidel version that came with the
Lost Treasures of Infocom package that was released in 1991 by Activision. As
far as I know, everything will be the same for other game versions.

*** STEP 1: Enter the pyramid. ***

Start by getting out of the cot (GET UP), then go south, southwest, and west to
get to the supply tent. Get the pick axe and shovel, then go east twice to the
fire pit. Get the matchbook, then go south twice to the work tent. Open the
knapsack and get the rope and canteen from it, then take the knapsack.

Go north four times to return to your tent, then hit the padlock with the shovel
to break it open. Get the padlock and drop it, then open the trunk and get the
dried beef and ancient map. Open the map to reveal a stone cube, get the cube,
then drop the map since you don't need it.

Eat the dried beef to prevent getting hungry later, then go south and west twice
to the river bank. Drink from the river, then open the canteen, fill it, and
close it -- you'll need more water later.

Now you're ready to find the pyramid. Go east once, southeast twice, then east
twice. Use the shovel to dig (DIG IN SAND) until you uncover the top of a
pyramid. Drop the shovel and put the stone cube into the square opening. Now all
you have to do to enter the pyramid is go down.

*** STEP 2: Loot the circular room area. ***

Drop the knapsack, then get the alabaster jar and the bronze torch. Open the
jar, then dip the torch into the jar's liquid. Get a match from the matchbook,
light it, light the torch with the match, then drop the match. Close the jar,
then put it, the matchbook, the canteen, and the pick axe into the knapsack.

NOTE: If you carefully follow this walkthru without doing anything unnecessary,
the torch will start sputtering right before you finish the game, but it won't
go out. If for some reason you want to "refresh" the torch when it's sputtering,
blow it out, then repeat the above process with the jar and matchbook.

Tie the rope to the altar, then throw the rope north. You can now climb down the
rope to enter the "circular room" level of the pyramid. Ignore the golden
cluster since you won't ever need it. Push the statue to get it to fall over and
break.

Pick up the statue's head. Push the statue down the southwest passage (PUSH
STATUE SW), then drop the statue's head. Now you can go northeast three times to
reach the Room of Selkis, where you can pick up a ruby cluster.

Go southwest three times and pick up the statue's head, then push the statue
northeast twice. Drop the head, then go southwest three times and get the
emerald cluster. Go northeast three times, get the statue's head, then push the
statue southwest.

Now push the statue northwest and drop the head. Go southeast three times and
get the opal cluster. Return to the statue and get its head, then push it
southeast twice. Drop the head for the last time, then go northwest three times
and get the diamond cluster.

That's all you need from the circular room area, so go southeast twice and climb
up the rope to return to the Chamber of Ra. Put all the clusters into the
knapsack for safekeeping.

*** STEP 3: Loot the barge and temple chambers. ***

Go south twice, northeast, and then northwest to reach the barge chamber. Go
north to get on the barge, then go east, down, and west to reach the room with
the bottom of the barge's mast beam.

Put the torch into the knothole, then get the shim to "unlock" the beam. Drop
the shim, then lift the beam up (LIFT BEAM). Get your torch back, then go east,
up, and west to find the loose beam. Take it, then go south to leave the barge.

Go west, north, and east to reach the north end of the barge chamber, then go
north four times to reach the temple chamber. From there, go north, east, and
south to the silver alcove, where you can take a silver chalice. Go north, west
twice, and south to reach the gold alcove, where you can get a gold chalice.

*** STEP 4: Enter the antechamber. ***

Go back the way you came to return to the barge chamber, then go back to the
Chamber of Ra. Put the chalices into the knapsack, then get the pick axe out of
it. Get the knapsack, then go east to enter the cube room area.

Go west and then south to reach the cube room with the brick panel. Get the
first, third, and fifth bricks to open up a new passage. Drop the bricks, then
go east, north, and west to get to the bottom of the stairs, where solid plaster
blocks the path to the west.

Hit the plaster with the pick axe, then go west three times to get to another
plaster barrier. Put the beam you got from the barge into the wall niches (PUT
BEAM INTO NICHES), then stand on it (STAND ON BEAM). Now it's safe to hit the
plaster with the pick axe. After you do, you can open the door and go west to
enter the antechamber.

*** STEP 5: Find the burial chamber. ***

Get your beam back, then go south to the southern end of the antechamber. Put
the beam between the rocks, then open the door and go west. In the annex, drop
the knapsack and get all of the clusters out of it (GET ALL CLUSTERS FROM SACK).

Put the diamond cluster in the huge stone slab's first hole, the ruby cluster in
the second hole, the emerald cluster in the third hole, and the opal cluster in
the fourth hole. Now you can open the slab and take the ancient book.

Pick up the knapsack, then go back east and get your beam. Go north twice to
reach the north end of the antechamber. To open its door safely, put the beam
under the lintel, then hit the seal with the pick axe. You're now through with
the pick axe, so drop it. Open the door and go north to find the burial chamber.

*** STEP 6: Open the queen's sarcophagus. ***

Put the book you got from the annex into the sarcophagus' large recess (PUT BOOK
IN LARGE RECESS). Go east to the treasury, then drop the knapsack and get the
two chalices and the canteen out of it.

Put the silver chalice on the table's right disc and the golden chalice on the
left disc. Open the canteen and pour its water into the silver chalice (POUR
WATER INTO SILVER CHALICE) to balance things. Now you can safely take the
scarab.

Go west and put the scarab into the sarcophagus' small recess. Turn the Neith
statue, then turn the Selkis statue, then turn the Isis statue, and finally turn
the Nephthys statue. Now you can open the sarcophagus and "win" the game. Some
ending, huh?
